John Wainio is President of the San Diego Group. Prior to forming the San Diego Group over 25 years ago, John Wainio spent ten years as a senior staffer for elected officials at the local, state and federal levels and trained as a political consultant under some of California’s most respected strategists.
John Waino has served California local, state and federal officials as their Press Secretary, generating proactive media in every market in the state, building lifelong relationships with decision makers throughout the state and a unique understanding of the motivations and perspectives of both local journalists and elected officials.
John Wainio has been an invited speaker and panelist at political consulting conferences in Washington, D.C., Sacramento and San Diego. The firm’s public affairs programs and political campaigns have consistently received honors and recognition from industry publications and trade groups.
Wainio has run more than 200 political campaigns for candidates and ballot measures. His network of clients, past and present, provide a widespread foundation for influence.
Humberto Peraza’s clients and associates consider him an effective and tenacious problem solver. His experience with a wide range of timely issues and strong connections at federal, state, and local levels of government ensure his advice is practical and on-target.
At various levels of government, Peraza has advised elected officials on issues related to redevelopment, affordable housing, the homeless, the environment, grant appropriations, and impacts of federal legislation on local municipalities and agencies. He has served as District Director for Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, Policy Advisor to San Diego City Council President Ben Hueso, District Chief of Staff to 51st District Congressman Bob Filner, San Diego & Imperial Counties Area Director/Statewide Latino Director for United States Senator Barbara Boxer, and also worked for 30th District Congressman Xavier Becerra in both Los Angeles and Washington DC.
Peraza’s connections are extensive, built over a 16-year period. In addition to relationships he has built on the job, Peraza is extremely active in the community. He served on Chula Vista’s Charter Review Commission, as vice president of League of Conservation Voters San Diego, and has served on the boards of MOVE San Diego, Planned Parenthood, and Planned Parenthood’s Action Fund. Currently, he is formerly Trustee at Southwestern Community College District.
